The next morning, we will head east to a unique French region on the border of Germany – Alsace. It is full of colourful towns, villages and cities with lots of character, and it is seen as the birthplace of the traditional Christmas market.

Our basecamp for the next three nights in the Alsace region will be Oberbronn. This village nestles on the foothills of the Vosges mountains. Oberbronn has retained its special character with picturesque streets with half-timbered houses.

We will make a daytrip to Strasbourg – the capital of the region. Strasbourg looks like a large island, mainly because it's surrounded by the Ill river. Most of the sites of interest are in the historic centre, called Grande Île, a place that looks like it has been frozen in time. Strasbourg has many monuments, churches, little shops and bakeries. From the Cathedral to museums, from the Petite France district, to the European quarter and some Christmas markets, we will explore the city with a guide on a walking tour.

Our next daytrip will be to Colmar. It is considered as the crown jewel of Alsace. Colmar is a town straight out of a storybook. Known for its well-preserved old town and colourful half-timbered houses, Colmar is a visual delight. The old town is a maze of cobblestone streets and historic buildings. The architecture reflects a mix of German and French influences. This part of France has changed hands between France and Germany multiple times in its history, giving the town a unique character. We will also be doing a walking tour through Colmar, with a guide.
